While we celebrate the movement of empowering women’s rights, we can also look at this woman who moved the traditional tattoo art “pagbabatok” to live in our generation. Whang-Od is a legendary Filipina tattoo artist considered to be the last mambabatok (traditional Kalinga tattooist) from the Butbut people in Buscalan Kalinga and the oldest tattoo artist in the Philippines. She’s been tattooing for almost 80 years of her life and is well-known internationally. She is indeed a woman of inspiration. Kudos Apo Wang od!
